When a child is diagnosed with cancer or a serious illness, life can change in an instant.

Families suddenly find themselves navigating medical appointments, treatments, hospital stays, financial challenges and an overwhelming amount of uncertainty. Parents become caregivers and advocates while trying to maintain some sense of normalcy for their children and family.

During these difficult seasons, families need more than medical care. They need support, connection and someone who understands. That is why Feel Better Foundation exists.

What Is Feel Better Foundation?

Feel Better Foundation is a volunteer-run nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting families of children facing cancer, serious illnesses and life-threatening diseases.

Our mission is simple: to help families feel less alone during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

We believe that supporting a child means supporting the entire family.

A childhood cancer diagnosis doesn't only affect the child. It affects parents, siblings, grandparents and the entire family system. That's why our programs are designed to provide meaningful support, connection and moments of joy for the whole family.

Childhood Cancer Affects the Whole Family

When people think about childhood cancer, they often think about the child receiving treatment. But behind that child is a family navigating the experience together. Parents may have to take time away from work. Siblings may experience changes in their routines. Families may spend weeks or months traveling to medical appointments or living in hospitals. Even everyday activities can become difficult. Birthdays, holidays, school events and family traditions may look different during treatment.

Families may also experience emotional and financial stress that continues long after treatment ends.

This is why family support is such an important part of the childhood cancer journey.

Supporting Parents and Caregivers

Parents of children with serious medical needs often spend so much time caring for everyone else that they forget they need care, too. Our Feel Better Mom program provides mothers and female legal guardians with opportunities to connect with other medical moms who understand the unique challenges of caring for a child with significant health needs.Through support groups, retreats, therapy and opportunities for connection, moms can find friendship and understanding in a community where they don't have to explain every part of their experience. We also provide opportunities for fathers through Feel Better Dad, recognizing that dads need support and connection, too.

Because when a child is sick, parents need someone in their corner.

Supporting Siblings

Siblings can experience many emotions when their brother or sister is seriously ill. They may feel worried, overlooked, confused or afraid. They may also feel guilty for wanting attention or frustrated when family life revolves around medical care.

That's why Feel Better Sibs creates opportunities for siblings to feel seen, included and supported. A child's diagnosis shouldn't mean that siblings lose their opportunity to simply be kids.

Creating Moments of Joy

Childhood disease and conditions can take away a lot from a family.

Feel Better Foundation believes there should still be room for joy.

Our programs and family experiences are designed to create moments that families can look forward to — whether that's a special outing, a retreat, a gift, a celebration or simply an opportunity to spend meaningful time together.

Sometimes a moment of happiness doesn't change the circumstances.

But it can change the day.

And sometimes, that's exactly what a family needs.

Creating Light in the Darkness

Our Feel Better Legacies program was created around the idea of bringing light into difficult places.

Through projects such as hospital gifts, wagons, gardens, special events and other meaningful initiatives, we work to create moments of comfort and connection for children and families. These projects are often inspired by children and families who have been affected by serious illness or cancer. Their stories remind us that even during incredibly difficult circumstances, we can choose to create something positive.

Support Beyond the Hospital

Families affected by childhood cancer often need support that goes beyond medical treatment.

They may need financial assistance for unexpected expenses.

They may need help with transportation or basic necessities.

They may need a listening ear.

They may need someone to connect them with community resources.

They may simply need to know that someone is thinking about them.

Feel Better Foundation works to fill some of those gaps by providing practical and emotional support to families when they need it most.

Why Community Matters

No family should have to navigate childhood medical conditions alone.

Community can look different for every family.

It may be another parent who understands.

A nonprofit organization that provides assistance.

A volunteer who delivers a care package.

A friend who brings dinner.

A support group.

A retreat.

A special experience that gives a family something to smile about.

Each act of support matters.

Together, those small moments can create something much bigger: a community that helps families keep going.

Supporting Childhood Cancer Families in Ohio and Beyond

Feel Better Foundation is proud to support families in Ohio and families who travel to the United States for their child's medical care. Childhood cancer doesn't recognize geographic boundaries, and neither should compassion.

Families deserve support regardless of where they live, what hospital they visit or how complicated their circumstances may be.

Our goal is to continue building partnerships and expanding resources so more families can find the support they need.

How You Can Help

You don't have to be a medical professional or have personal experience with childhood cancer to make a difference.

There are many ways to support families:

  • Donate: Your financial support helps us provide programs, family assistance and meaningful experiences.

  • Volunteer: Our organization is powered by volunteers who give their time, talents and energy.

  • Connect: Sometimes the simplest way to help is to tell someone about Feel Better Foundation.

  • Partner with us: Businesses, organizations and community groups can help us create new opportunities for families.

  • Support a family: A meal, gift, encouraging message or act of kindness can mean more than you realize. Every contribution helps us continue creating support for families when they need it most.

You Are Not Alone

A childhood cancer diagnosis can make a family feel like the world has suddenly become very small.

But there is a community waiting to help.

At Feel Better Foundation, we believe families deserve to be supported throughout the entire journey — from diagnosis and treatment to survivorship, relapse, bereavement and everything in between.

We believe parents deserve support.

Siblings deserve to be seen.

Children deserve moments of joy.

And families deserve to know that they don't have to walk this road alone.

Together, we can create light in the darkness.
